0-10, no dammit Cloe’s
Down in a hole is an album from Jack ba, I mean Keifer Sutherland. Released on Aug 19, 2016. I purchased this album as an impulse buy during a trip to Barnes and Noble. Saw it and thought Wait wuuuuh? This should be interesting. I forgot that he also did music. So how is it? Let’s find out. Also it won’t 24 hours to do so
Can't Stay Away
Starts off with a pretty nice band ensemble. This is my first time hearing Keifer sing. Must say, I like it. His music sounds like a good mix of classic country, and 90s alternative vocals. Complete with the female backing vocals in country. The melody in this one is very nice. It’s a pretty straightforward song buts extremely chill. Easy to sit back and sip a whiskey too. Only downside is it ends a suddenly kind of like this se
Truth in Your Eyes
Bouncy main riff to this one. Contradictory to the happy music style and melody, the lyrics are actually pretty sad. The loss of a loved one is always extremely difficult, let alone the love of your life. When I first heard this song I didn’t pick up on the lyrics in the verse, just thought it was a somewhat generic love song by the chorus, boy was I wrong. True context makes this song beautiful
I'll Do Anything
More classic country style music. Country gets a bad rap for being all the same, singing bout your truck, tractor blah blah blah. But classic country is fantastic, like for myself I love me some Willie Nelson. I get that vibe from Keifer, especially with this song. It’s just great chill music. Nothing too in your face but you know its there, and your toe tappin as you sip
Not Enough Whiskey
Where has all the whiskey gone?! We have all have had nights like this, where no matter how much you try, nothing is enough to make things better, and it just hits you. Personally, this has happened a lot in the past 8 months or so. Not going to delve to much into that. This song sits well in the relate to it department. In the end, everything will be ok, I tell myself that every night
Going Home
I get a Tom Petty feel from the music in this one. This is a good follow up to Not Enough Whiskey. They feel connected if you listen to them, like as an aftermath of those events. The upbeat music helps too. But again, the lyrics that are deeper than when you first initially decipher them. I’m going to keep with this, because it fits, but this album is perfect if your just chillin with the boys smokin cigars, sippin on some brews and just sitting around a bonfire. Man that sounds nice
Calling Out Your Name
Gelling well with this song. I’ve had dreams that coincide well with this song. Emotional song again. That’s another thing I will say about this entire album, its relatable music, except for you crazy kids that got lucky first try and married your first love and are still going strong, good for you...
My Best Friend
Leaving the past behind. It’s not an easy thing to do, I’m starting to think I’m the poster child of that. This song is basically about loving yourself, and not letting the negativity of the world around you effect that. This is something I have tried doing with myself, and it isn’t easy. But, sometimes, its what you have to do. I’ll stop there before this gets too real
Shirley Jean
Don’t call me Shirley. Love me some banjo. The music in this one is layered very nicely. Lyrically it’s a little all over the place, which makes sense because its sort of a story time song. Pretty sure its a dying mans last words before getting the chair. Being loved by someone despite your faults is a theme I get from this. Must be nice. Minus, you know, getting the electric chair, that’s not nice
All She Wrote
Very ominous guitar intro to this one, I dig it. This one makes you feel like a cowboy, again, I dig it. Let me give you a reason to check out this song, its cool, That’s all she wrote
Down in a Hole
Classic rock and Classic country meet perfectly to make this song. Speaking of someone when they are at their very worst, and trying to help them out of it. The middle riff and solo in this one continues that country rock and it is awesome, its too short though, but does transition to a surprisingly heavy section. Song worthy of being a title track, it has it all.
Gonna Die
We end here with another Tom Petty style sounding song. And that is never a bad thing if you ask me. You just kind of close your eyes and take this one in. Feel the music. Music does not have to be complicated or even your preferred genre to feel it, all you need to do, is close your eyes, and take it in.
All in all, this album is fantastic. I can’t remember the last entire album that I felt like I just wanted to chill, and truly feel the music. Again, its nothing breakthrough, complicated, or even stellar in any shape or form, BUT, its the feelings you get from it that I feel warrants you give it a spin
