Told you I'd do the suggestions
Intro Vid
Welcome to the first video series I'm calling, Fenrirewind. Pretty self explanatory, its classics. And the is Liquid Swords. It is the second solo studio album by rapper and Wu-Tang Clan member GZA, or the Genius, released on November 7, 1995. Little out of my normal wheel house, but I made this channel to celebrate all music. So like I end every video, if you have something you want me to check out, comment it down below. Without Further Adew, lets review
Liquid Swords
Starting off with a sampling from the movie Shogun Assassin, properly setting the tone. Once the song really starts it has a very catchy flow, with a very classic hip hop beat pushin on through. What I'm getting here is calling out fake mc's stealing others writings, plagiarizing the verse. Not having the real heart to make it in the game. Strong use of metaphors for a strong opening song
Duel of the Iron Mic
More movie samples, which still works. Seems like a follow up to the intro, like the retaliation for testing the real artists without thinking of the consequences. Don't like it as much as liquid swords but its still good
Living in the World Today
He done said Guillotine. More classic hip hop here. Whenever I listen to rap, which I will be honest is not that often, this is the style I prefer. If feels more genuine. Not to say there isn't good stuff today, just old schools better. Catchy chorus in this one
Gold
I'm surprised this one wasn't in Breaking Bad somewhere. Almost seems like a commercial advertising your Business, and that he will protect said business with great authority. Other than some spots where I feel they stretched the flow a little past the beat, its nice. Favorite beat so far as well
Cold World
Where the last one had my favorite beat at the time, this one may be my favorite song. The beat, flow, little guitar notes and elevator music in the beat just works so well for me. Nicely sung chorus to boot. Probably as close to a perfect song as you can get
Labels
Again goin after the fakes, callin out the people claimin to be hard but coming from ivory towers. Not my favorite but still solid
4th Chamber
Am, Am I being hypnotized? Trippy start to this. Transitioning into a great laid back sound, and some heavy undertones. Contrary to the laid back music this one has one of the quicker flows in it. Also may be the heaviest on the metaphors. Me like
Shadowboxin'
Oh man... Title fits very well. I can picture someone shadowboxing to the song. Not much else to say, it good
Hell's Wind Staff/ Killa Hills 10304
Showing knowledge of Iron Man before it was cool? Nice haha. Just a bunch of dudes talkin without someone singin in the back. It then transitions into an Art of Noise soundin beat. Talking of the happenings of the neighborhood. Again metaphor heavy, but that's how this works
Investigative Reports
That Drug life and what it entails. The dealing life, the surviving life. Not even going to pretend I understand what its like, but this covers it well. Surviving that life style with police and competition all around. Down moment for me but I can still appreciate it
Swordsman
Don't step up to the best without expecting a good smackdown. Lyrics are deffinately deeper than that, which is good because musically this one is lacking. But that may be a good thing overall as it lets the words take the forefront. Sometimes that's the better approach when spreading your message
I Gotcha Back
A chorus to live by. Watching each others back, but don't forgot to still keep your eyes open yourself. Don't trust everyone expecting your support to catch everything, or themselves being the one get you. Very chanty here
B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)
Closing time. Wanting a better life when stuck in less than Ideal situations. Also calling the bs of ones church. Think for yourself and question the words being forced on you by the people claiming to have the power to enforce words. Very strong closing song with subject matter that isn't addressed enough. Those with the power to help using that power to gain while the weak continue to fall, causing them to return to the power for help. Endless cycle
In closing, this one was great. The word mastery on display was worthy of a man going by The genius. I didn't know what to expect when I started listening to this but I'm happy to report that I'm glad I did. Even if you are not into Rap, or Hip hop, R&B or whatever I recommend you give this a spin
