TOP 10 STYX songs Metal fans need to hear

The year, was 2004. I was on my way up to the mountain winery. Little did I know, I was on my way to the mos important concert of my life. The gateway to my musical journey, my first Styx concert. That slowly evolved over time to get me into metal. And that got me thinking, what are songs that I think metal fans need to hear, from STYX. There's a lot more than you would expect but here are the top 10. Also, quick version of this, just buy the Rockin album from them, can't go wrong with it.

  1. Rock 'n' Roll Feeling

First up we have a classic song from the early days, Rock n roll feeling. 1st things 1st, a lot of these songs will be featuring James jy Young on vocals, as he tends to be the one singing the heavier songs. This song is classic rock n roll but has the constant up tempo flow that you love. Never a dull moment here, its a good feeling

  1. Captain America

This song is closer to what you'd expect for a classic metal song. The main riff is great and groovy. It's a perfect song of metal and rock coming together to form a song. It has multiple layers that you want. This song came out when Styx was starting to reestablish themselves in the rock game and it was a good song to do so with

  1. Shooz

Song starts off with a strutting groove, with its sweet little bluesy drive. Once the song really gets going it maintaines that bluesy feel but gets it going to the heavy territory that you wouldn't expect. Tommy Shaw sings this song a little more aggresively than normal too, which looking back makes me wish he did that more. You cannot deny the groove

  1. Best Thing

We have another early day classic. This one isn't the traditional song you'd expect to see, but it has feelings you could associate with metal. Song has elements of Deep Purple with Sir De Youngs key work. Its the middle of the song though that brings it here, as it is a heavy riff that you don't expect. For such a short song it has a lot going for it.

  1. Midnight Ride

Back to JY providing the Styx Metal Experience in a classic rock desguise. Riffs, Solos, vocals, it has them all. This song is the complete package, and metal fans, you will like.

  1. Heavy Metal Poisoning

I mean, its in the title. If you listen to this song out of context, I'll just say don't take the lyrics as how they feel about this, as its part of a concept album Kilroy is Here, if you didn't know. Dr. Reightcheous smacks you with his riffs. I wanna hear a band do a modern cover of this song because with heavier toned guitars it would be amazing. Somebody get on that. This is one of the songs that got me into metal after hearing it, that should tell you enough.

  1. Half Penny, Two-Penny

From one of their greatest albums, this song stands out from the rest to me. That main riff is just so sexy. Overall this song is much closer to the classic rock but Metal Fan's like rock, at least you better, if not than who hurt you? I would say however, instead of the original version, start with the live version from Styx World Live, that version is properly heavy as the more modern tones bring it to life.

Before we hit the top 3, I have a favor to ask. I have a goal, of reaching 100 subscribers by the end of this year. If you are enjoying this video, or have enjoyed any of my past videos and have yet to subscribe, please consider doing so. Help me reach this goal, and grow this channel to reach its potential and go even further beyond

  1. Homewrecker

From the odd days of Styx after the departure of Tommy Shaw, this song is a propper ripper. Up tempo, perfect for driving too at very very high volume. Even the keyboard solo is heavy. It's just a great song

  1. Heavy Water

More specifically, the live version from At the River's Edge, such a great live set. Fitting to the title, the main riff to this song is HEAVY. One thing I love from this live version is they include the intro for Great White Hope, which builds into Heavy Water. Man I love that damn riff. It's used throughout but really comes into form for the amazing Chorus. I loooove this song and you will too!

  1. Miss America

My absolute favorite Styx song. If you watch Jared Dines you have heard the main riff of this song in some videos. You can't go wrong with any version of this song, the classic sounds of the original, the spectacular live versions that embrace its heavier nature, its just the perfect song for metal fans, especialy on again, the Styxworld Live 2001 album. That is up there as one of my favorite live albums all time, its so just, geeeeah

So my fellow Metal Heads, will you check any of these out, or have you already heard any of these? There is of course more so if you can think of any please leave them in the comments below. I'm gonna go throw some Styx records on now and Rock out a bit, this is Fenrirock Signing off, take care.
